This is normal. There is a brake that is hitting the housing. This is the stopping power of your drum for safety.

My whirlpool washer is leaking water.
Possible the pump is leaking. Either follow procedure on Question 3 to remove the cabinet or till machine back to check for a leak during a small load size. Look at the pump that is in front of the motor. Remove hoses and remove the clips that the pump connects with. Remove pump. Install new. Look for other possible leaks after you install.

My washer is making a roaring noise during spin.

How much detergent do I need for each load?
How much detergent do I need for each load? This depends on the hardness of your water and the soil in your clothing. Softened water requires quite a bit less detergent than hard water? Yet the more soiled the clothes, the more detergent you need to clean them. See the instructions on the detergent package for specific guidelines. If soap suds remain at the end of the cycle, you are probably using too much detergent.

Where does the lint from my washer go?
Where does the lint from my washer go? If your washer doesn't have a lint filter that you manually clean, the lint goes down the drain. This is usually safe for both city sewers and septic systems.

The water in my washer's warm cycle isn't very warm. Why?
The water in my washer's warm cycle isn't very warm. Why? The warm water for your washer is simply a mixture of the hot and cold water available from your home. If the hot water entering the machine isn't very hot, the warm is actually cool. Also, in northern climates, during winter months, the cold water entering the unit may be significantly colder than in the summer, which causes the warm water to be cooler. In some cases, the water inlet valve may be restricted, or there may be sediment on the screen, that blocks the input of the hot water.

How delicate is the "delicate" cycle?
How delicate is the "delicate" cycle? The systems used for delicate cycles vary widely. Units with at least a two-speed motor? One-speed for regular and another for delicate? Are usually gentler than units with only one speed.

What causes those fuzzy balls on some clothing?
What causes those fuzzy balls on some clothing? Many synthetic clothes shed small fibers that ball up and cling to the clothes. Remove these "pills," if you like, with a fuzz-removing device that you can get from your local clothing materials supplier. Overloading your washer can make this condition worse.

Why do some clothing dealers suggest washing clothes inside out?
Why do some clothing dealers suggest washing clothes inside out? In the washer, the clothes often turn inside out during the agitation cycle. Turning the clothes inside out first may be easier on the clothing. It helps limit abrasion on the "good" side of the fabric, reducing "pilling" and extending the life of some fabrics such as corduroy. In addition, any embroidery, decals, and so on are better preserved. It should not affect the performance of the cleaning action to have the clothes inside out during wash.

I have some spots on my clothes after I washed them.
Spots on Clothes Chemical reaction between fabric softener and detergent. Test by hand washing a spotted garment in warm soapy water. If the spots come off, they were caused by fabric softener/detergent interaction. Transmission oil leaked back into the tub. Test by applying solvent to a section of a spotted garment. If the spots come off only with solvent but not with soap and water, then they are oil spots. If the washer is a GE/Hotpoint, transmission will need to be replaced.

My clothes are torn or ripped after I washed them.
Clothes Torn or Ripped Use of too much bleach or bleach not getting distributed evenly. Clothes getting caught under agitator. Feel under bottom of agitator for rough spots that can catch clothing. Using too little water for the load size.

What do I do to store a dishwasher?
The procedure for storing a dishwasher is similar to above. Select a short wash cycle and use one of the following methods to help clean the dishwasher and remove odors. - Fill both sides of the detergent cup with a fresh or lemon scented automatic dishwasher detergent. - Fill both sides of the detergent cup with baking soda. - Add one cup of bleach to the bottom of the tub after the dishwasher has filed with water. Allow the dishwasher to complete the cycle. It is also important to carefully clean the door gasket of the dishwasher with baking soda and water solution. To prepare the dishwasher for storage, turn the water supply off and set your dishwasher to drain. Check the dishwashers use & care guide for reference on how to drain. Operating the dishwasher drain portion twice should ensure most of the water will be removed. Disconnect the electrical supply and prop the door open.

How do I store a refrigerator?
In preparing your refrigerator for long periods of non-use, be sure to remove all food from both compartments. If your refrigerator features an ice and water dispenser or you have an automatic ice maker installed, turn off the icemaker by raising the wire arm. The valve where you tapped into the water line supply should also be turned off. Drain the water from the holding tank and plastic tubing for the water dispenser by placing a pitcher under dispenser and filling until the water stops. Disconnect the refrigerator from the electrical outlet. Clean the refrigerator thoroughly, including the defrost pan (usually located under or at the back of the refrigerator). Use a mild detergent or two tablespoons of baking soda per quart of warm water. If your refrigerator has glass shelves, allow them to warm to room temperature before cleaning. Dry the interior. Leave the doors open to prevent odors from forming.

How do I store a washing machine?
To clean the washer, run it through a complete cycle. Select the regular fabrics cycle and add a cup of bleach (the lemon scented versions leave a fresh smell) or white vinegar to a full load of warm or hot water without clothes. In addition, be sure to remove any lint from the manual-clean lint filter. Next, turn the water faucets off and disconnect the inlet hoses. Advance the dial to the final spin of the regular fabrics cycle and drain any water that may be in the drain hose(s). Finally, disconnect the washer from the electrical supply and leave the washer lid open to let air circulate inside the tub.

My Washing machine (top load) shakes really badly, what's wrong?
If the washer has been in the same spot and has not been moved to a different type of flooring, then it's more than likely a problem. Most washers have a snubber underneath the transmission housing. This will cause a shaking under spin settings. Snubbed is a plastic support below the transmission housings on the Maytag and Frigidaire top load washers.
