How do I know this is the correct filter for my fridge?

The GE Smart Water Filter (MXRC) ONLY fits older GE and Hotpoint refrigerators that have the metal Water by Culligan type filter, FXRC, FXRT, GXRC, MXRC, HXRT, WR97X10006, or Kenmore part number 46-9905.

Most customers prefer to switch to the newer GE MWF filter and adapter because it is less expensive and it filters more impurities from the water. However the filter is a little taller than the MXRC, so if your top shelf is set high in the fridge, you may want to order the MXRC filter.
